So as you might have noticed, there is very little in terms of vocational school or college in the wizarding world. We know there has been suggested to be a WADA (Wizarding Academy of the Dramatic Arts) but in general we just know certain professions require extra training (like the aurors). How do we as a site handle this?

Considering the wizarding world isn't quite as modern as the world that we live in, it stands to reason they handle this in a more oldfashioned way as well. While back in the elder days general education wasn't quite that much of a thing and you usually got taken in as apprentice of a trade, we figured that it makes sense for the magical world to have general education at Hogwarts and after that, specialised education, oldfashioned style.

What this means (in short)
- More complicated professions get extra schooling after graduation as part of their careers. Classroom training before the on the job training starts.
(Healers, Aurors, Curse Breakers). The length of this depends on the job. (generally half a year to a year in classroom before the on the job training begins)
- Most vocational professions get an apprenticeship with an existing shops/masters. This means that professions that create things (tattoos, furniture, clothes, etc) normally become an apprentice and instantly start their on-the-job training. Work and learn at the same time.
- Certain 'higher' professions don't have specific training to them. This includes professions like professor or leadership positions in the ministry. These come from a mix of related experience (such as aurors for law enforcement) or excessive experience on certain subjects (like a cursebreaker might go on to teach ancient runes or history of magic after some years in the field)
- Fewer jobs still are self-made. These are mostly things like models, authors, inventors and other professions where professional training isn't strictly required as much as highly advised.

When considering a job in the wizarding world for your characters or deciding where you students go after graduation, please consider this! If you have any questions about specific jobs, please contact staff (or discuss amongst each other what makes sense if I'm asleep and you're impatient).
